Biography
Dr Tim Child is one of the world’s leading experts in fertility, and runs an independent private practice to provide expert evidence-based advice and treatment.
Tim is Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine in the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford. He has published more than 100 research papers and has brought new treatments and techniques to the UK, increasing both the success and safety of fertility treatment.
As the clinician on the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) committee, he helped develop the NICE Fertility Guidelines, setting out evidence-based recommendations for the NHS to follow. In 2008 Tim co-founded the award-winning University of Oxford MSc in Clinical Embryology. In 2021, he was appointed by the Secretary of State for Health to the board of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the UK’s regulator of assisted conception treatment and research. Tim Chairs its Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee (SCAAC), responsible for the IVF Add-Ons traffic light system.
From 2004 until 2023 Tim was Founding and Group Medical Director of Oxford Fertility and The Fertility Partnership (TFP), growing from two clinics to 20, becoming the largest IVF provider in central and northern Europe. He left this position in 2023, to pursue independent practice and increase his time supporting patients. He is an Executive Consultant to Apricity.
He is co-author of the UK’s highest selling obstetrics and gynaecology textbook and has contributed to many other books in the field, including ‘The definitive guide to IVF’ by Clare Goulty and Sue Bedford and ‘Big Fat Negative: The Essential Guide to Infertility, IVF and the Trials of Trying for a Baby’ by Emma Haslett and Gabriella Griffith.
After studying Medicine at Cambridge and London Universities Tim completed a sub-speciality fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at McGill University in Canada. He was then appointed to his University of Oxford position whilst also gaining a Doctor of Medicine research degree at the University of London.
Tim is a supporter of NHS fertility provision, speaking out on inequalities in funding. He is an invited speaker at Fertility Conferences around the world.
Tim is active on his Instagram page @drtimchild hosting Lives and posting evidence-based content for the fertility and miscarriage community. Tim is a Trustee of the Fertility Alliance charity.
